History Vault. Each god has stories native to him, and one is imagined differently from the other. On the other hand, the Roman love god blossomed out to become a handsome young man. How beautiful was the Roman god of love? She saw his hairs of gold, that yielded out a sweet savour: his neck more white than milk: his purple cheeks, his hair hanging comely behind and before, the brightness whereof did darken the light of the lamp. Born of the goddess of beauty herself, Cupid, god of love, is a divinely beautiful deity, whose fine features epitomize innocent youth, and yet make their owner incredibly attractive.

There is light that shines from the Roman god Cupid, and his brightness puts the lamplight in shadow. How the Roman god Cupid enamors people is through his bow and arrow. Cupid, god of love, withdraws arrow from his quiver, pull the love-poisoned arrow on his bow string, and — twang — one helpless soul falls madly in love. Do gods and humans find such a love beneficial? O rash and bold lamp, the vile ministry of love, how darest thou be so bold as to burn the god of all fire when he invented thee, to the intent that all lovers might with more joy pass the nights in pleasure?

Cupid, the Roman god of love, keeps the fire of passion and pleasure alive in the cold of night. To command human beings to multiply and populate the world is by no means enough. There needs to be a god who impregnates people with the irresistible urge to actually mate and breed. So have babies come out of the womb: thanks to the Roman love god. Has the Roman god Cupid been this popular among gods and mortals, though? Cupid, rash enough and hardy, who by his evil manners, contemning all public justice and law, armed with fire and arrows, running up and down in the nights from house to house, and corrupting the lawful marriages of every person, doth nothing but that which is evil.

The Roman god of love is a little prankster, naughty and reckless, playful and mischievous, bearing little regard for order and propriety, caring not who his arrows struck, but interested most of all in game and fun, playing his frivolous little pranks that cause much havoc and mayhem. In a frolicsome manner the Roman love god shoots burning passion into hearts that would otherwise morally refuse to love.

The Roman god Cupid even enchanted his own mother, throwing the goddess of love into quite a few illicit love affairs. Venus became jealous and asked Cupid to take action. She told him to shoot Psyche with an arrow and make her fall in love with a monster. He became flustered and dropped the arrow he was going to shoot at her. He instantly fell in love with Psyche.

They visited an oracle, who told them that their daughter was destined to marry a monster. They were to take her to the top of a mountain and let fate take its course. They did as the oracle said and left their daughter alone on the top of a mountain, believing they would never see her again. Psyche waited for a monster to approach her but instead, the west wind lifted her up and carried her to a palace. Voices whispered in her ear, telling her it was all hers. The palace was beautiful and had everything Psyche had ever asked for.

She was waited on day and night by invisible servants. She ate magnificent food and was always entertained. Her parents consulted an oracle, and were told that she was destined to marry a monster, and they were to take her to the top of a mountain and leave her there.

The west wind took her and wafted her away to a palace, where she was waited on by invisible servants. That night, her new husband visited her in her room. He told her that he would only visit at night and that she must never look at him. Psyche was surprised that he was kind and gentle. She listened to his wishes and never gazed upon him. Her life seemed perfect from the outside but she still felt homesick and lonely.

She asked her husband if her sisters could come and visit. He agreed to her request. They said he was a monster who was only taking so good care of her because he would eventually eat her. Her only chance to stay safe was to kill him. That night, Psyche grabbed a candle and a knife.

For the first time, she gazed upon her husband, expecting to see a monster. Psyche didn't mind. She had a fulfilling life with her husband in the dark, and, during the day, she had all the luxuries she could ever want. When the sisters learned about the luxurious, extravagant lifestyle of their lucky, beautiful sister, they urged Psyche to pry into the area of his life that Psyche's husband kept hidden from her. Cupid was a god, and, as beautiful as he was, he did not want his mortal wife to see his form.

Psyche's sister didn't know he was a god, although they may have suspected it. However, they did know that Psyche's life was much happier than theirs. Knowing their sister well, they preyed on her insecurities and persuaded Psyche that her husband was a hideous monster. Psyche assured her sisters they were wrong, but since she'd never seen him, even she started having doubts. Psyche decided to satisfy the girls' curiosity, and so one night, she used a candle to look at her sleeping husband.

Cupid's divine form was exquisite, and Psyche stood there transfixed, staring at her husband with her candle melting. While Psyche dawdled, a bit of wax dripped on her husband. Her abruptly awakened, irate, disobeyed, injured husband-god flew away. Cupid might have gone along with the separation, but Psyche couldn't. Impelled by the love of her beautiful husband, she implored her mother-in-law to give her another chance. Aphrodite agreed, but there were conditions.

Aphrodite had no intention of playing fair. She devised four tasks not three as is conventional in mythic hero quests , each task more exacting than the last. Psyche passed the first three challenges, but the last task was too much for her.
